TODAH - Caring Committee

The TODAH caring committee is the spiritual fiber that connects people to the synagogue family.  It is the“quiet” committee that consists of people who wish to fulfill the mitzvot of hesed (loving kindness), bikur cholim (comforting the ill), and tikun olam (mending the brokenness of the world).  We assist others on a deeply personal and spiritual level. We do not teach, preach or offer medical advice; we do a great deal of listening, always in a confidential manner.

The reason for creating the TODAH committee was to bring together those who care for others in order to get to know and mutually support one another.  By meeting regularly, we can reach out and learn from each other as we improve our abilities to care for our extended synagogue family and other members of our community.

The TODAH committee provides many different kinds of assistance.  These include visiting the ill, following up with those who have returned from a hospital stay, visiting the lonely (at their homes, or in nursing or assisted living homes in person or by telephone), helping a family with shiva arrangements and even being available to help families celebrating simchas!  We send greeting cards (created especially for TODAH) often, a gesture that is always welcomed.

Our goal also includes learning to take care of our own self.  It is our prayer and intention to turn ourselves into resting places for the Shechina so that the light of the Divine may shine through us and uplift and inspire others to know love, acceptance, joy, inner peace, beauty, strength and humility in the presence of God and others.  It is a lofty goal but worthy of our pursuit.
