INGELORE
Country: USA 2009 Documentary Ingelore is a remarkably compelling story of individual freedom, told from the deeply personal perspective of a unique person. Ingelore Herz Honigstein was born deaf in 1924 Germany. Cast aside by her parents, and stigmatized by her disability, she spent her formative years isolated, lonely and unable to express herself. But as a Jew in 1930’s Germany, her deafness was not the only hurdle she would have to overcome, as she experienced the terrifying rise to power of the Third Reich. Using speech and sign language, the now 87 year-old Ingelore narrates the harrowing and traumatic events leading up to her immigration to America, revisiting past experiences with remarkable candor and emotional clarity. Despite her deafness, she reveals herself as a most articulate communicator and the story of her life unfolds with great dignity. Filmmaker Fred Stiefel’s visually rich and visceral film is both an uplifting story of triumph in the face of daunting odds, and a meditation on personal freedom, both physical and emotional. Mature themes. Not recommended for children Date & Time: Sunday, November 13th at 1:00 PM |
